Transylvania students receive prestigious international scholarship

Transylvania University students Aissata Sackho ’21 (left) and Tatianna Verswyvel ’22 recently received a prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship — an award from the U.S. Department of State that enables students to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity.

Sackho plans to study in France, and Verswyvel is headed to the Czech Republic.

“It is really exciting that we have two Gilman scholarship recipients for the upcoming spring semester,” said Courtney Smith ’16, Transy’s director of global and intercultural engagement. “Both Aissata and Tatianna worked extremely hard to make study abroad a reality, and we are excited to see them flourish abroad as representatives of Transylvania.”

The scholarship is administered by the Institute for International Education.
